Building Conquerors
A Year in Review
SCS Families,
This has been an exciting and meaningful year for our Schaumburg Christian community. As I reflect on my third year as Administrator, I can confidently say this has been one of the most fulfilling seasons of my life. We have been blessed beyond measure.
Our students have grown spiritually, academically, and socially. They’ve worked together to serve one another, their school, and their community—living out what it means to be Conquerors. Their pursuit of excellence has paid off in powerful ways. Many of our seniors have received academic scholarships and awards, and several are pursuing careers in fields such as nursing—ready to make an immediate and lasting impact for Christ.
Each of our administrators has written a summary to highlight the remarkable things happening in every department and division across the school. These updates are a testament to the faithfulness of God and the dedication of our staff.
This year has also brought clarity and renewed purpose. Our leadership team has taken intentional steps to sharpen our vision and values, aligning them with Bethel Baptist Church’s mission to Make and Mature Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Glory of God. We invite you to read more about our vision and values through the link below.
We’ve also navigated a significant transition—moving from long-standing systems to a new all-in-one platform, FACTS. This migration will allow for a smoother, more unified experience for our families and staff in the years to come.
This year has also included moments of celebration and gratitude. We honored the retirement of Mark and Darla McVey, who have served Schaumburg Christian School with nearly eight decades of combined ministry. Their leadership, faithfulness, and love for students have shaped the heart of our school for generations. To honor their legacy, we are excited to announce the launch of the McVey Service Award, which will be presented annually starting next year to a graduating senior who exemplifies faithful, Christlike service.
We are grateful for what God has done this year—and even more excited for what’s ahead. Schaumburg Christian School is growing, thriving, and preparing students to live lives of purpose. Thank you for being part of this journey.
Thank You,
Marc Popovici
School Administrator
Highlights
Preschool - 3rd Grade
This third year of serving as the principal of the Early Education Center at Schaumburg Christian School has truly been a privilege and blessing. I am incredibly pleased with the dedication, passion, and hard work demonstrated by our teachers. Their commitment to nurturing the hearts and minds of our students was evident in every classroom. I am also so proud of our students and the tremendous growth we witnessed—academically, spiritually, and socially. It has been a joy to see how the seeds of the gospel have been planted and are beginning to take root in their lives. We trust that God will continue to water and grow these seeds in the years to come. May He receive all the honor and glory for all that was accomplished this year academically, socially, and spiritually.

Academic Growth:
Our youngest learners made remarkable strides this year. From mastering classroom routines to recognizing letters, numbers, and writing their names, each child grew in confidence and capability. Pre-K students advanced from early phonics to reading simple sentences and grasped math concepts through sorting, measuring, and identifying shapes. Their fine motor skills also flourished through hands-on learning and creative play.
Spiritual Growth:
Spiritual formation was at the heart of every day. Students memorized Scripture, participated in worship, and learned foundational truths about God’s love, creation, and forgiveness. Chapel time and Bible stories brought these truths to life, while moments of student-led prayer revealed a growing, personal faith.
Social Development:
Students built lasting friendships, learned to resolve conflicts kindly, and practiced empathy and forgiveness. From sharing toys to celebrating special days like Dino Day and Princess & Pirate Day, students experienced a loving and joy-filled classroom community that reflected Christ’s compassion.
Kindergarten
Academic Growth:
Kindergarteners blossomed into readers, writers, and problem-solvers. They tackled addition, subtraction, time, and money, and learned to count by 2s, 5s, and 10s to 100. Through a hands-on, engaging curriculum, they made real-world connections and found joy in learning.
Spiritual Growth:
Students memorized over 35 Bible verses and discovered truths about God as Creator, the one true God, and our Savior. These foundational lessons built a firm spiritual footing and inspired a desire to know and honor God.
Social Development:
This year marked a leap in independence and interpersonal skills. Students practiced kindness, teamwork, and respect, showing growth in character as well as academics. Their confidence and compassion set the stage for future success.
1st Grade
Spiritual Growth
This year, we studied many Bible truths and learned how to apply them to our lives. Through stories in the Bible, we saw how God used men and women for His purposes, and we discovered how He can use us too. We grew in our prayer life as we prayed for our families, friends, and our own spiritual growth. What a blessing it was to witness God answering our prayers! We also spent time focusing on the life of Jesus Christ—studying the significance of His coming, His life, His death, and His resurrection. We learned that He did all of this to be our Savior and to forgive us from our sins.
Academic Growth
First grade was an exciting year of learning and growth in Language Arts. We explored many letter sounds, blends, digraphs, and spelling rules, which helped us become stronger readers and writers. In Math, we developed our foundational skills by practicing strategies for adding and subtracting, learning to solve problems, and understanding concepts like time and money. We also explored a variety of Science and History topics and worked on special projects to deepen our understanding. One of our favorite experiences was hatching baby chicks or ducks—what a memorable part of our year!
Social Growth
Our social growth this year was deeply connected to our spiritual growth. The Bible truths we learned helped guide our actions and relationships. We practiced getting along with our classmates, speaking up for ourselves in kind and respectful ways, and showing love and kindness to others. We also learned important classroom procedures that helped us stay focused, maintain structure, and do our best work every day.
2nd Grade
This was a wonderful year in second grade! Students grew in every area—spiritually, academically, and socially.
Spiritual Growth:
The students deepened their understanding of God's Word through themes such as God and His Work, The Fall, Christ, Salvation, Christian Living, and End Times. These truths came alive as we studied Bible figures including Joseph, Lamech, Adam and Eve, David, Solomon, Jesus, and Paul. We praised God during chapel through worship songs and learned about the book of Romans. Daily Bible study allowed students to connect Scripture to all areas of learning as they developed a Biblical Worldview.
Academic Growth:
The second graders engaged in rigorous learning across all subject areas: Bible, Math, Reading, English, Spelling, Heritage Studies, and Science. In Math, they mastered addition up to four digits, subtraction with renaming, multiplication, division, shapes, and measuring. In English, they explored sentence structure and the writing process. Students read a variety of texts, including favorites like Captain Stripes' Gold, A King for Brass Cobweb, and Sea Island Mystery. In Heritage Studies, they discovered topics such as culture, government, and economics. Science topics included matter, motion, forces, animals, plants, habitats, fossils, and body systems. Special days like Dino Day and A Celebration of Cultures brought learning to life!
Social Growth:
The second grade students focused on growing in godly character, learning about traits such as self-control, obedience, respect, integrity, diligence, honesty, leadership, patience, and service. Weekly memory verses supported these character themes. Students practiced getting along, solving problems, and showing kindness. Community and school spirit were strengthened through fun Spirit Days like Orange Day, Pajama Day, Crazy Hair Day, Character Day, and Sports Day.
3rd Grade
The third graders did a fantastic job serving as leaders in the Early Education Center this year! Their presence brought joy, and they will certainly be missed as they move on to the Daniel Building for fourth grade.
Spiritual Growth:
There was no greater joy than witnessing each student's growth in faith throughout the year. Their understanding of the Bible deepened, and a noticeable maturity emerged in both their faith and character, as reflected in the Fruits of the Spirit. Their insightful questions led to meaningful spiritual conversations, and one of the most special moments of the year was when a student expressed a desire to be saved and asked how to accept Christ—an unforgettable reminder of the power of faith. Their spiritual growth even inspired the hearts of those around them!
Academic Growth:
Third grade was a year of tremendous growth. Students developed key life skills such as independence, diligence, responsibility, prioritization, and the importance of doing their best for the Lord. Their commitment to academic excellence and perseverance led to great accomplishments and a deeper love of learning.
Social Growth:
The third grade students' spiritual maturity was clearly reflected in the way they treated one another. They demonstrated kindness, compassion, and a sense of responsibility to support their peers. Whether welcoming a new student or navigating difficult situations with grace, this class consistently showed a heart for others. Their warmth and unity created a classroom culture filled with encouragement and care.
4th - 8th Grade
As we come to the end of this incredible school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the growth we’ve seen in our 4th through 8th-grade students, spiritually, academically, and socially. It has truly been a joy to watch them develop not only in their learning but also in their faith and character.
Our 4th and 5th grade students approached their studies with energy and curiosity, creating classroom environments filled with encouragement, friendship, and joy. In middle school, I’ve had the privilege of watching students grow into thoughtful leaders who are learning to rely on God’s Word and face challenges with determination and grace. Whether through classroom discussions, hands-on projects, field trips, or shared moments of laughter, this year has been filled with meaningful experiences that reflect God’s faithfulness.
As you read through the reflections that follow, I hope you are encouraged by the many ways God has been at work in the hearts and lives of our students. Thank you for your continued support and partnership. It is a true blessing to walk alongside your families during these formative years.
~ Melissa Moehring, 4th-8th Grade Principal
4th - 5th Grade
Spiritual Growth
This year, our classrooms focused deeply on what it means to live out the two greatest commandments Jesus gives in Matthew 22: to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to love others as ourselves. We explored these truths through consistent reflection on Jesus’ ministry and practical engagement with Scripture, particularly during our third-quarter study of the book of Matthew and the Sermon on the Mount. Students asked thoughtful questions and engaged in rich conversations as they sought to understand God's Word and apply it to their lives. Throughout the year, they memorized over 30 Bible verses, practiced note-taking during chapel, and even endured a few of Mr. McHenney’s less-than-masterful Bible illustrations! It has been a joy to see the students grow spiritually—encouraging one another, showing compassion, and letting God’s truth shape their hearts and actions.
For our 4th graders, this was a year of stepping into something new. They began the school year in a new building, sharing space with older students and rising to meet the higher expectations placed on them both behaviorally and academically. They joined the 5th graders each Monday for chapel with Pastor Josh, where they were consistently encouraged to reflect on God’s Word. They also learned to be the hands and feet of Jesus—stepping out of their comfort zones, building new friendships, and growing into future leaders.
Academic Growth
Academically, our students showed incredible progress. From embracing responsibility and growing in independence to demonstrating deeper thinking and higher-quality work, the growth has been remarkable. We doubled our efforts in history, science, computers, and art by no longer alternating these subjects, which allowed for richer exploration—especially in U.S. history and science. Students participated in meaningful projects like colony advertisement presentations, the Gilded Age newspaper, the wax museum, and several engaging science activities.
4th graders were challenged through specific projects like writing biographies for Black History Month and memorizing all the U.S. presidents. These experiences not only sharpened their academic skills but also pushed them to persevere and think critically. The year concluded with a special field trip to Cantigny, where students deepened their understanding of the World Wars and their impact on our world. It has been especially rewarding to see students who struggled at the start of the year now thriving as confident, capable learners.
Social Growth
Socially, this group of students has become a close-knit and supportive community. At the beginning of the year, some students didn’t have familiar friends nearby, but over time, meaningful friendships were formed, and our classroom became a place of belonging for everyone—including our new student, who was warmly welcomed. The students consistently used their words and actions to build each other up and make guests feel comfortable.
We also celebrated many joyful moments together: the Great Pumpkin Fall Party, Christmas and Valentine’s Day parties, tech days, pizza parties, and even a Willy Wonka Brownie Making Extravaganza! From singing on the bus and during recess to supporting each other in class, these shared experiences helped foster unity, kindness, and lasting memories. As our 4th graders prepare to step into 5th grade, they do so as leaders—ready to set an example for the next group of students entering this new and exciting stage.
Middle School
Spiritual Growth
This year, it has been a joy to witness significant spiritual growth across our middle school students. Many began to open their hearts more to God's Word, asking for prayer and guidance when feeling overwhelmed, and showing a desire to understand Scripture on a deeper level. We saw encouraging signs of students trusting God's truth even through challenges, and several began to take on spiritual leadership roles—encouraging and supporting their peers. More students regularly brought their Bibles to class, committed Scripture to memory, and started viewing life’s events through a biblical lens. Morning devotions became a treasured time, and it was touching to see students initiate prayer before lunch with sincerity and reverence.
Academic Growth
Academically, our students demonstrated strong growth in perseverance, curiosity, and engagement. Whether grappling with challenging algebra concepts, developing stronger writing in English, or diving deeper into literature and novel discussions, students leaned in and made consistent progress. In subjects like history, science, computers, and art, students benefitted from a more integrated approach that encouraged deeper thinking and hands-on learning. Many showed greater initiative in asking questions and seeking help when needed, while others demonstrated improved focus and determination, particularly as the year came to a close. Overall, student performance and participation reflected a commitment to finishing strong.
Social Growth
Socially, our middle school students grew in their ability to collaborate, communicate, and build healthy relationships. It was heartening to see students working well in varied groups, ensuring that no one was left out and showing kindness and inclusion during class projects. Throughout the year, they developed stronger listening skills, practiced emotional regulation, and supported one another both in the classroom and beyond. From classroom discussions to group projects and community-building activities, students took more responsibility for their interactions and began to display leadership and encouragement among their peers. Their genuine enjoyment of one another and willingness to work together made for a vibrant and supportive learning environment.
High School
It has been another remarkable year at Schaumburg Christian High School as we continue our mission of training Christ-centered leaders for the glory of God! The Class of 2025—our 45th graduating class—consisted of 31 students who have been equipped with strong academic foundations and spiritual maturity as they head to universities across the globe this fall.
We are continually encouraged by the testimonies of SCS alumni who express deep gratitude for the preparation they received at Schaumburg Christian School—preparation that has served them well in college, career, and life. God’s hand remains evident as our students grow spiritually, socially, and academically.
This year, our juniors and seniors excelled in our expanding College Dual Credit Program, completing over 58 college courses and earning 182 college credit hours—an increase of more than 40 credit hours from last year! This incredible and unique opportunity not only gives students a strong academic advantage but also helps families save significantly on future college tuition costs.
In our continued commitment to building leaders, students launched 10 new clubs, and overall club participation reached a record high. In addition, the second year of our Conqueror Community Service Program saw tremendous growth: 65 students logged a total of 1,135 volunteer hours, tripling both participation and service time compared to last year. What a blessing to see students actively living out their faith by serving others!
Looking ahead to the fall, we are excited to introduce new course offerings in Accounting, American Sign Language 3, Digital Illustration, and a suite of Dual Credit courses, including U.S. History, General Psychology, and Medical Terminology. These additions will further enhance our ability to prepare students for future academic success and lifelong impact.
From the classroom to the chapel, from athletic fields to fine arts stages, God is at work at Schaumburg Christian High School. As we close this chapter and prepare for another school year, we remain committed to our calling—to build leaders for God’s glory.

High School Principal
Fine Arts
Throughout the 2024–2025 school year, Schaumburg Christian School’s (SCS) Fine Arts department has been bustling with energy, creativity, and a spirit of excellence. Aligned with our “Building Conquerors” mission, the Fine Arts program has nurtured students’ God-given talents and served as a vibrant platform for personal growth. By integrating faith and artistry, we have empowered students to express their faith, develop confidence, and excel both on stage and in the classroom.
Core Contributions to Student Experience
The Fine Arts program is instrumental in shaping well-rounded students and enriching their SCS experience in multiple ways:
- Cultivates creativity and expression: Through art, music, theater, and more, students explore diverse artistic mediums. This freedom to create encourages original thinking and allows each student’s unique voice to emerge.
- Strengthens worship and spiritual growth: The arts are woven into our faith-based activities—students contribute to chapel worship teams, perform sacred works, and use their talents to glorify God. This integration reinforces spiritual lessons and deepens students’ relationship with Christ.
- Builds confidence and self-discipline: Preparing for performances, rehearsals, and exhibitions challenges students to practice diligently. As they step onto the stage or display their art, they gain confidence, poise, and a strong work ethic that carries over into all areas of life.
- Fosters community and collaboration: Fine Arts classes, ensembles, and productions unite students across grades. By working together in bands, choirs, orchestras, and theater casts, students learn teamwork, leadership, and mutual support, forming lasting friendships.
- Enriches academic performance: Engaging in the arts supports cognitive development and critical thinking skills. Research shows that music and art education can improve spatial reasoning, memory, and problem-solving—benefits that help students excel in math, science, and literacy.
- Prepares for future opportunities: Fine Arts training develops transferable skills like communication, creativity, and collaboration. Whether presenting a project or solving a creative challenge, students gain confidence that prepares them for college, careers, and lifelong learning.
Highlights of the Year
This year was marked by enthusiastic participation and outstanding achievements across our Fine Arts programs:
- Student Participation: Over 250 students took part in music, art, and speech programs, reflecting strong interest and engagement school-wide.

Program Enhancements
To meet growing interest and continually improve our offerings, several key enhancements were implemented this year:
- Expanded Art Department: New teaching staff have been added to the Art Department to accommodate the rising number of students. This expansion means smaller class sizes, more individual attention, and a wider variety of studio courses in visual arts.
- Enhanced Pre-K Music Program: We doubled the time allotted for music instruction in our Pre-K classes. These expanded sessions introduce young learners to foundational musical concepts—rhythm, melody, and singing—setting the stage for early development and a lifelong love of music.
- Strengthened Speech & Drama: The Speech and Drama program, especially at the high school level, was bolstered this year. We added resources and support for advanced stagecraft, public speaking, and theater courses, building on the strong middle school foundations to ensure all students have rich creative opportunities throughout high school.

Establishing SCS Vision & Values
At Schaumburg Christian School, our values and vision have always been part of who we are. They’ve guided our decisions, shaped our culture, and defined what we expect from ourselves and our students. While these principles have long been lived out in our classrooms, chapels, and community, we believe it’s important to put them into writing clearly.
Why? Because we believe in them, and we want our students, families, and staff to know exactly what we stand for and what we strive toward.
- Our values reflect who we are.
- Our vision reflects where we’re going.
- And together, they set the standard for how we grow, serve, and lead—as conquerors through Christ.
Establishing Core Values
At Schaumburg Christian School, our values shape everything we do. We believe in nurturing students who are:
- Christ-centered: We are committed to placing Christ at the heart of everything we do (Col. 3:17).
- Excellence: We pursue excellence in all aspects of life. (1 Cor. 15:58)
- Service: Cultivating a caring community by serving the needs of others. (Mat. 5:16)
These values are not simply aspirational—they are lived out in our classrooms, chapels, and community. From preschool through high school, we challenge our students to grow intellectually, spiritually, and socially, always pointing them toward the ultimate goal: becoming Christ-honoring leaders who impact their world for His glory.
Establishing a Vision
Rooted in Romans 8:37, our vision is to build conquerors—young men and women who live with courage, conviction, and compassion because they know who they are in Christ: “In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”
This vision calls us to equip students not only with academic knowledge but with wisdom. Not only with achievement but with character. We strive to develop conquerors who:
- Stand firm in faith
- Pursue excellence with purpose.
- Serve with Christlike love.
- Engage the world with a Biblical worldview.
- Lead with courage and integrity.
We are committed to creating a culture where students grow in faith, think critically, and engage their world with boldness and grace. Through intentional discipleship, high expectations, and strong partnerships with families and churches, we are preparing the next generation to live out their calling with strength and joy.
STEM & Career Oriented Courses
We are thrilled to share that Schaumburg Christian School has raised $35,000 to support our growing STEM and Career Pathways initiatives. Thanks to the generosity of our school community, we are taking significant steps forward in preparing our students for real-world success—all while staying grounded in our mission of Christ-centered excellence and service. Here’s how the funds are being used:
1. LEGO STEM Sets – Hands-On, High-Impact Learning
We are partnering with LEGO® Education to bring high-impact STEM kits into our classrooms. These hands-on activities teach physics, problem-solving, and collaboration in a fun, engaging way. One of the most exciting outcomes is that students don’t just build—they present. Public speaking is a critical life skill, and these LEGO® challenges encourage students to articulate their ideas confidently.
2. Digital Art Notebooks – Creativity Meets Technology
Our new high school digital art class is launching with the help of digital art notebooks. These tools allow students to explore creativity in fresh, expressive ways while learning modern design techniques. This investment supports both artistic development and real-world digital literacy.
3. CNA Program with Harper College – Health Careers Begin Here
We’ve officially partnered with Harper Community College to launch a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) pathway. This year alone, six of our graduates are entering the nursing field. Soon, our students will be able to graduate from SCS with a CNA certificate already in hand. We are currently working through final approvals to offer CNA training directly on our campus.
4. Expanded Career Pathways and Christian College Partnerships
We are building out more career-aligned pathways for our students—including business, digital media, and healthcare. More importantly, we’ve partnered with a growing number of Christian colleges to offer our students unique admissions advantages and scholarships. SCS graduates are gaining a significant head start compared to their peers in surrounding schools.
Thank you for investing in our students and helping us equip the next generation of leaders with the tools, skills, and faith foundation they need to thrive. We can’t wait to share more updates as these programs continue to grow!
Student Life
We are excited about the future of Student Life at Schaumburg Christian School under the leadership of Mr. Nate Whittaker. His passion for student engagement and discipleship will be central to a new era of growth, connection, and purpose.
What’s Ahead:
-
Quarterly All-School Chapels: For the first time, we will gather our entire school once each quarter for a unified chapel service. These chapels will be live-streamed and centered around our annual theme, bringing our entire student body and staff together for worship, teaching, and encouragement.
-
High-Impact Chapels Throughout the Year: Chapels will continue to be a vital part of student life, featuring messages from staff, students, and guest speakers who will help us stay rooted in God’s Word while living out our values.
-
Intentional Investment in Students: We will continue to shape a Christ-centered student life experience by focusing on:
-
Biblical Foundations that develop spiritual maturity
-
Service Opportunities that build character and compassion
-
Career-Oriented Experiences that prepare students for real-world calling and purpose
-
We believe God is doing a mighty work in and through our students, and we are eager to walk with them as they grow into Christlike leaders, equipped to serve and thrive in every season of life.
Facility & Security Upgrades
- Unfinished Hallways: This past year we received over 300 lockers for our middle school area. Currently, we are communicating with schools and donor to receive desks and other classroom equipment to ensure the buildout is not a financial strain on our budget. The goal will be to have our unfinished hallways completed by the start of the 25-26 school year. We cannot achieve this goal without our parent and community support. With the addition of these classes, we'll be able to provide 10 more classes for future enrollment growth.
- Art Room: We are making plans to rehab one of our old, unused rooms to be an additional classroom for our arts program. In this room, our elementary students will have a class personalized for them while leaving space for our high schoolers space to have graphic design class.
- Security: Officer Dailly alongside the administration have been working on the facility's security plans to ensure our students remain safe and secure.
- Athletic Facilities: We have begun the process of changing out the lights in the Life Center Gym and the project will be completed by the start of next school year. We are planning to purchase record boards, and we are developing plans to redo our gym floors within the next few years. The funding for our athletic facility renovations is generated from facility rentals.
- Health Office: Health offices will be moving to a cloud-based health portal upgrade to our current documentation system. This will allow for digital uploading of files, notifications of visits, and seamless communication throughout the day for ailments and injuries. Please watch your email for enrollment information this summer. Updates to policies, health record management, and medication management are also currently in development to ensure optimal wellness and care for students and staff throughout the school day.
- EEC Playground: We are looking to remodel and redo the EEC playground.
Partner with us
We invite you to partner with Schaumburg Christian School in our mission to provide a high-quality, Christ-centered education. Here are three key ways you can support our school:
1. Spreading the Word
- Social Media and Personal Networks: Help us reach more families by sharing our school’s updates, achievements, and events on social media. Talk about the positive experiences and benefits of our school with your friends, family, and colleagues.
- Community Events: Engage with local community events and use these opportunities to promote Schaumburg Christian School. Distribute brochures, share your experiences, and encourage others to explore what our school has to offer.
2. Joining Us in Prayer
- Prayer Support: Join us in prayer for our students, teachers, and school community. We believe in the power of prayer and invite you to pray for wisdom, protection, and success in all our endeavors.
- Prayer Groups and Requests: Participate in prayer groups or share specific prayer requests with our community. Knowing that we are united in prayer strengthens and encourages us all.
3. Giving Your time and FINANCIALLY
-
Join PAC: We encourage our families to join the Parent Action Committee (PAC) that helps support the school by organizing and sponsoring school events for our students. The PAC host two major events for school community. The Parent Action Committee led multiple events this year including the Father/Daughter event, Mother/Son event and Teacher Appreciation Week. We want to extend a big THANK YOU to all the volunteers and donations that went into making these events a great success for SCS students, teachers and staff. PAC provides parents with an insider view into what’s going on at school, offering a deeper understanding of school activities, programs, and initiatives. This transparency helps parents stay informed and engaged, enabling them to better support their children's education. By bridging the communication gap between parents and the school, PAC fosters a collaborative environment where parents can contribute their ideas and feedback, further enhancing the educational experience for students.
- Volunteering: Your time and talents are invaluable. Volunteer to assist with school events, help in classrooms, or provide administrative support. Whether you have a few hours a week or just an occasional day, your involvement makes a difference.
