Schaumburg Christian School presents The Ugly Duckling
an elementary play featuring students in 1st - 5th grades on
Friday and Saturday, October 27 and 28 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel.
The Ugly Duckling by Hans Christian Andersen is a long-forgotten childhood classic. The tale is of the journey an ugly duckling takes to find her place of belonging. The story begins, like our own lives, with the image of birth. When the ugly duckling is born, she is faced immediately with the realization that she is unlike the rest of her family. Her brothers reject her, and her mother fails to comprehend the comfort her ugly duckling needs. In the turmoil of loneliness, the ugly duckling sets out on a journey to find where she belongs. Along the way, she meets a turkey, a goose, a dog, a cat, a hen, and a beautiful child. The child accepts the ugly duckling as she is and even looks past the ugliness to see great beauty. The ugly duckling grows and transforms into a beautiful swan, and the child has the selflessness to let go of the pet she loves, giving the ugly duckling the freedom to spread her wings and reach her potential.
You will not want to miss watching these students perform
this timeless story as they remind us all of the beauty of selfless love
and the worth we all possess as human beings made in the image of God.
