Listening Contest
The goal of this year's contest is to discover the variety of music from composers across the ages. Listen to at least one piece from each composer ont he list. You'll get an idea of just how varied and expressive music can be!
- Listening to at least one piece by each composer and complete a listening form. If you don't know everything, just answer as much as you can.
- You can put a sticker on the chart for that composer when you turn in the completed form. No stickers without the listening form!
- If you average two a week, you should be able to get through all of them through the year.
- Prizes:
When you reach: You earn: * 10 stickers, from at least 3 time periods Small candy bar * 25 stickers, covering all 5 time periods A CD that corresponds to your orchestra * Full chart of 51 stickers A CD of your choice (from collection), a large candy bar of your choice, and an award at the final recital! - Some of these composers did not write "easy" music to listen to; others wrote so much great music it's hart to know where to start. To help you out, I'll post a "feature of the week" giving recommended listening for two of the composers each week. You don't have to follow the recommendations, but they might help get you started.
- By the end of the year, you'll discover a lot of music you didn't know existed, and at least some - maybe a lot! - that you really enjoy. You'll also start to realize how music has changed through the passing of time...and who knows, maybe you'll be one of the composers of the future!
Classical radio can also be a source; WFMT from Chicago (98.7) is available in this area, and farther west, station 89.5 provides classical music from NIU.
Internet may also be a source, but be careful of pirated music. www.classicalarchives.com is a reputable source.
Also, the appropriateness of all music from the library, internet, or radio even if it is under the label "classical" cannot be guaranteed as good music
