Music Program

Schaumburg Christian School provides a wide variety of opportunities for students to learn and develop in the area of music. From classroom music to private lessons, to choir and instrumental groups, SCS offers many different avenues for students to participate.

Group Music Instruction

Musical Maestros (Preschool 4)

This program is designed to build a strong musical foundation in musical and verbal vocabulary through storytelling, active movement, and dramatic expression. Students will learn how to sing simple songs on pitch, tap a steady beat, count and tap different timing pattersn, learn note names and their values, recognize the names and sounds of musical instruments, and experience increased vocabulary and fine motor skill awareness.

Little Virtuosos (Kindergarten)

This program is designed to develop a strong musical foundation by helping children learn about musical concepts, vocabulary, and musical history. Students will learn and expreience music through barred, stringed, and woodwind instruments, in a fun, hands-on environment. This program bulds the necessary musical foundation prior to individualized instruction.

Beginning Piano (1st Grade)

This program is designed to give students a head start on individualized piano instruction. Students will learn the note names for the treble and bass clefs and the note values.

Private Music Instruction

The Fine Arts program of Schaumburg Christian School offers instruction at all levels and welcomes those who are new to music as well as those who have been refining their talents for many years. Our teachers strive with every lesson to help every student excel in his/her God-given talents.

Instrumental Music Program

The Instrumental Music Program at SCS consists of a band and a strings division. The four bands each represent a graduated level of training.

Band Program

  • The Beginning Band offers elementary students in 4th–6th grades an opportunity to play one of the basic instruments of the woodwind, brass or percussion family. No prior knowledge of music is required.
  • The Elementary Band program is for students in 5th and 6th grades who have graduated out of beginning band.
  • The Junior High Band is a continuation of the Elementary Band and offers more opportunity for performances and training.
  • The Senior High Band provides advanced instruction in band performance and provides many opportunities to perform throughout the year. The SCS junior high and senior high bands are consistently awarded top honors in the annual state competitions.

Strings Program

Students who with to take part in the strings program can begin their training as early as first grade and can continue through the high school level. Instruction is available for violin, viola, cello, and bass. Small group instruction (for beginners) and private instruction (for advancing students) are supplemented by five orchestras which focus on advancing musicianship, technique, and repertoire.  Beginning students are part of First Grade Orchestra or Beginner Orchestra; they continue through elementary into the Mozart Orchestra and then the Tchaikovsky Orchestra. At the junior and senior high levels, our growing String Ensemble provides more opportunities for performance and musical growth.

Choir

Students have the opportunity to perform in an organized choir beginning in grade four through their senior year of high school. Each choir performs in special programs throughout the school year. The elementary choir consisting of Grades 4 through 6, the junior high choir and the senior high choir perform at the annual Illinois Association of Christian Schools Academic and Fine Arts Tournament. Our choirs have won numerous state and national awards.
